Has anyone checked their ec2 account activity usage numbers after hwk6?

I chose to use the extra large image, and perhaps this was too much horsepower than needed. After just starting and working through late Sat evening into early Sun, mine shows usages of 90hrs and $60.

Did anyone else see similar numbers?

I spent about $37, using the XL images for the 5 node processing, and the medium images for the 19-node processing.  I was pretty good about only keeping the clusters online for the pset operations though (i.e. I babysat both runs).

haha, yup! As soon as someone suggested the xlarge one I thought "that's a great idea" -- $70 later, had the assignment done! Luckily we had the credits Smiley

Thanks for the feeback; I thought I had done something incorrectly to generate this usage (besides supersizing my cluster node image from the get-go).

People with final projects on the cloud will need to manage these usages. I'd be happy to transfer my balance to others who require it, if it is possible to do so.

This is probably a dumb question, but where are you all seeing the breakdown of costs?

When I go to Account Activity, I still show $99.88 in credits remaining, as of 11/13/2009 21:59 GMT according to the page -- but I can't believe that I accomplished HW6 having spent only 12 cents.

My credit card wasn't charged, but I do show a bunch of activity in the usage report, so they've got me on the books.

Is there something simple I'm missing? Thanks for the advice!

Not a dumb question -- you have to click on the plus sign next to Elastic Compute Cloud.

And no, you're not alone, it took me a while to figure this out because my credit's were showing up (actually still do) as $100.00 and I kept thinking "Is this free?!?"

Regarding the instance types, what the heck is a "compute unit"? Some sort of unit of processing power?

I think one unit ~1GHZ. This was to abstract the speed differences between Intel and AMD.
(If my memory serves me correct from the lectures -- someone correct me if I'm wrong! Smiley)
